Maura Varley - Volunteer & Community Outreach Manager
Maura was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and has been fortunate to live in some amazing cities like Boston and San Francisco before settling in Richmond, Virginia, 25 years ago. Richmond has become home to her husband, four children and two adorable, though ridiculously energetic, golden retrievers.
Maura has spent the past 8 years as the owner of Fluffy Feet Photography, a Richmond-based pet portrait studio where she specialized in capturing whimsical, personality-filled portraits of pets. Photography combines Maura’s main love for creativity, animals, and making people smile.
Early in her career, Maura obtained a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Public Health and spent over a decade in her field of study. As the Director of Health Education at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco she developed education programs, created workshops for prenatal education, and secured over $180,000 in grant funding for community initiatives. When she moved to Richmond, she worked with the Bon Secours hospital system to overhaul their perinatal education programs.
Giving back has always been important to Maura. For three years she chaired the Relay for Life of Chesterfield, where she worked with an incredible team of volunteers to raise over $300,000 for the American Cancer Society.
When she’s not working or volunteering, she spends time with her golden retrievers, Maverick and Buddy. They keep her on toes with their boundless energy and constant shedding. She is so very grateful to be part of the RAL community and looks forward to meeting and working with all of you!
